Volunteering with us
Our volunteers play a valued role in making the Library welcoming, accessible and enriching to everyone.
When volunteering at the Library, you’ll be supported to learn new things, and to draw on your own experiences to make the role even more meaningful.
Volunteering at State Library Victoria is a fantastic way to meet people and learn something new.
Who can volunteer
We welcome and value the unique contributions of all people. We invite applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, people from diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ people and people of all abilities.
Become an onsite volunteer
Our onsite volunteers make a positive difference and provide exceptional experiences for hundreds of visitors every day. Volunteers are an integral part of our team, and make an invaluable contribution by bringing unique skills, strengths, experiences and passion to the Library.
Our onsite volunteers provide a warm welcome to visitors, helping them find their way through Library spaces and exhibitions.
Onsite volunteers must be:
- 18 years or older
- legally permitted to volunteer in Australia
- able to move safely and independently around Library spaces

Become a digital volunteer
In addition to offering onsite volunteer opportunities, we welcome volunteers to contribute to preserving the State Collection by transcribing digitised documents via an online platform. Engage with the collection, learn about Victoria’s history, and improve accessibility for all.
